Hi!

I’m Danaea

a wife, mother (to two littles) and a seasoned portrait photographer with over 10 years of experience. When I started my business I was a single woman and I am grateful for the way my marriage and motherhood has shaped the photographer I am today. The way I see and document other people’s lives and families resemble that life shift. I see and feel the importance of the tiny details we cherish and the quiet fleeting moments of affection. I want to embrace the different personalities, highlighting the honesty of children and the way they express themselves - filterless! Freezing time in a photograph is deeply important to me. I am deeply nostalgic and can’t help but picture not only you but your kids flipping (hopefully not scrolling) through a family album years down the line.

MY STYLE

Showcasing the extraordinary in the seemingly ordinary moments. I aim to capture you and your loved ones in an authentic and artful way. Nothing too polished or posed because family life never is. With my knowledge of light and experience with children I can capture your family in a way that is both real and beautiful (because real is really beautiful!). My hope is that you will have pictures of your incredible everyday life lining your walls. Something meaningful to hold onto as time continues to roll along.

Heirlooms to pass on so one day your kids will look at them and be reminded of how good it felt to be held by their parents. If you’re looking for the Sears portrait style with everyone smiling hard at the camera I may not be the Photographer for you. I would rather capture the family dog piles, trolling the park for the perfect stick and tickle attacks on mom and dad’s bed. If you would like to see an example of what you can expect from a family session with me feel free to ask for a link to a full family gallery!

MY WHY

My goodness children sprout up quickly and I feel like I notice it most when I’m confronted with a photo (sometimes from only a couple months prior!). Every stage is filled with memories and moments that you never want to forget. We think and hope we will remember it all. We take photos and videos on our phones with no real plan to let them live outside the digital clutter. Family sessions are something that we invest in and the likelihood of printing and using these photos is much greater! It’s important for me to be able to pass photos down to my own kids one day that showcase our lives together. Although I would relish in my children living with me well into their 20’s the reality is we only get (roughly) 18 years with these sweet babes in our homes and I want to hold onto every detail. When documenting your family I want to do so in a way that will reveal your dynamic and your every day magic. It’s the small and seemingly insignificant moments that we miss most as time pushes on. Lego creations and forts made of blankets and couch cushions forever! Those chubby dimpled toddler hands deflate, the leg and arm rolls stretch out and their little bodies become way too heavy to cart around as much as you both would like. When I look back on the photos we had taken of our family I am flooded with warmth as the memories of that sweet stage rush back to me. It really is a privilege to love someone and call them home.

Put a slice of this imperfectly perfect moment aside to savour in later days.

You will be you, they will be them and that is more than enough.

I get on the other side of the lens at least once a year. Mostly with these cuties!
